Our Story
Affirmed Minds,LLC was conceptualized years ago, but was not fully realized until June 2020 when David and Stefanie became partners. Affirmed Minds, LLC was created to provide workshops specifically to address issues that prevent people from living their most optimal lives. The topics include grief/loss, relationships and relationship building, self-esteem, and affect identification, to name a few.
Workshops and trainings are provided to adults to address various areas including women’s topics, grief/loss, depression/anxiety, identifying purpose, etc. The pair also developed a program (C.H.A.T. - Cultivating Heroes and Amazing Teens) to teach SEL (Social Emotional Learning) skills to students in 8th-12th grade.
In addition to C.H.A.T. and adult workshops, David is the founder of a young male's mentoring group, G.O.A.L. (Gentlemen on Another Level) in which he provides mentoring services to high school Junior and Senior male students. David developed this program to give male students an opportunity to learn much needed skills to be successful in life.
Stefanie L. Burby
Stefanie L. Burby is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Indiana and Illinois, who obtained her Master’s Degree from Governor's State University. Ms. Burby has been a Social Worker for 14 years. She has experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. Ms. Burby has a passion for working with people and she has been able to develop this passion while working in the Foster Care System, Outpatient Mental Health Setting, Public and Charter School Systems and at her own private practice (S. Burby Mental Health Consulting). She has experience working with those who have been exposed to and experienced abuse, community violence, intergenerational and other traumas, as well as those who experience anxiety, depression and relationship/family issues. Ms. Burby believes everyone deserves to be whole, healthy, loved and understood and this can be achieved by providing a safe, nurturing place to attain healing and wellness.
David E. Carroll, Sr.
David E. Carroll, Sr. has an extensive background in providing Security Services in various environments including education, construction, private companies and in the nonprofit sector. He attended Olive-Harvey College, with a plan to major and degree in Criminal Justice, but entered the workforce to begin his career before completion. In addition to his experience in the Security industry, Mr. Carroll provided mentoring services to young adults for several years. It was in this role, he began to identify his niche in serving young people to equip them to make positive, healthy choices. He believes children deserve the opportunity to be successful and to realize their fullest potential by engaging in interactions with adults who feed and nurture their skills, talents and abilities. It has become his life’s work to ensure all young people he encounters have what they need to live their most optimal life.
